Yes, Las Vegas has a few "lakes".  The big one being Lake Mead, but there are a few other communities that have man made lakes if you're dying to live by water. Here are some of the communities that have lakes in them:

The Lakes: The Lakes, not to be confused with Lake Las Vegas, is a residential community is one of Nevada's first master-lanned communities. Developed in the 1980s around several large man-made lakes, this Clark County community is located immediately west of the Las Vegas Strip off of Sahara and Durango Avenues. The Lakes community boasts lush green expanses of land and views of the gorgeous bodies of water. With two-and-a-half decades under its green belt, this well-established Clark County community has a population of over 17,000 people, and it continues to grow. The Lakes real estate options include single-family homes, estate properties, condominiums and townhouses. Residents benefit from all of the Las Vegas excitement, business opportunity and amenities in a convenient location to the Strip. Jogging trails loop through the Nevada landscape. Shops and libraries are available along Sahara Avenue. Private, public and higher education schools in the Clark County district are conveniently located nearby and offer award-winning educational facilities. Red Rock Country Club: Red Rock Country Club, is a luxury golf community on the west side of Las Vegas, has wonderful amenities to offer its residents like being in a guard gated community, members club, tennis courts, and fantastic views of the mountains and the city.   Now saying "lake front" homes in this community might be a bit of a stretch....it's more like "pond frontage homes". Spanish Trail: Spanish Trail is another community where "pond frontage homes" might be more appropriate.Spanish Trail is a beautiful guard gated golf course community on Tropicana and Rainbow. It was one of the first communities of its kind in Las Vegas combining an award winning 27 hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. This stunning golf course is one of the few that has green grass year around, and it's surrounded by mature trees, waterfalls, trails, and great views of the mountains. Desert Shores:  The Desert Shores Community Association is a 3,351 unit master planned community located in the shadow of the foothills of northwest Las Vegas. This community was developed by RA Homes in 1988 and includes twenty-two different residential districts, with everything from condominiums to median priced housing and large custom homes behind private gates. All of the lakefront homes have direct access to the lakes and the option of private docks. The Association transitioned to homeowner control in November 1992. Desert Shores encompasses 682 acres and features four man made lakes, a lagoon style swimming pool surrounded by a sand beach, palm trees and a picnic park with volleyball, basketball and playground facilities. The community docks provide paddle boating and fishing for the residents. The 2,100 square foot clubhouse, with terraces on the side of the main lake, is the site of many private parties and special community events. Being recreation-oriented, this community offers miles of walking and biking paths and the beach facility and paddle boats operate six days a week in the spring and summer, including holidays.

    Luxury buyers in Las Vegas didn't just stick to the ground.  21 luxury high rise condos sold in the last year.  The top selling high rise was located in Howard Huges Center adjacent to the strip.  This condo was 4,903 sq ft, 3 bed room, office, 4 baths, and absolutely incredible views of the Las Vegas Strip. As Las Vegas grows up as a city and as more people discover that the city has a life beyond the flashy lights of the strip, the style of homes is growing up too. There is a plethora of tuscan villas through out the valley and if you're wanting to be transported into the old world style of Italy there are choices through out the valley.  The modern home enthusiasts will have to look a little harder to find their dream home, but a growing group of architects and custom home builders are doing just that.  The Ridges in Summerlin is a custom golf course community on the west side of Las Vegas.  It's guard gated and many builders are flocking to this beautiful community for the spectacular views of the city, large lots, and high quality properties.  The Ridges has custom home lots available to build your dream home, or if you'd rather move right in to a modern desert home there are homes currently available on the market.   There is an modern aesthetic required by the rules and restrictions of the community so you will not see any Tudor style homes in here.

Just north of The Ridges is another beautiful golf course community called Red Rock Country Club. This is a guard gated community west of the 215 freeway.  There are two sections in this community, the east gate and the west gate.  In the west gate you will find more custom homes and some incredible modern homes.   The club house has a fantastic view of the city and is worth having lunch and taking in the scenary.  It's nestled up against Red Rock National Park and the view of the mountain are equally impressive.

One of my favorite modern home community is Macdonald Ranch in Henderson Nevada.  One notable difference from this community is the lush almost tropical entry into the neighborhood.  It's also a guard gated golf course community with two private golf courses: Dragon Ridge and Desert Willow at Sun City Macdonald Ranch.  Lot sizes in this community vary wildly depended on the area within the community. When you first enter the community,  Toll Brothers has built a large number of semi custom homes.  As you continue to wind up the hill you will see more custom homes on slighter larger lots.  If you keep driving up the hill you start to see the massive properties on half acre plus lots.   The views do not disappoint as you start to climb up to the top of the community.   I've seen some amazing modern properties that would impress the most discerning buyers.

Modern architecture is generally characterized by simplification of form and creation of ornament from the structure and theme of the building. It is a term applied to an overarching movement, with its exact definition and scope varying widely. That is the definition of Modern Architecture from Wikipedia.
